Among the recommended excursions during the holidays in Gargano we can’t overlook a visit to Tremiti Islands, a fascinating natural paradise in Italy, with magnificent sea bottoms, protected marine nature reserves.
The origins of Tremiti Islands are linked to legendary tales about the hero Diomede. According to the legend Diomede threw in the water three rocks that gave birth to San Domino, San Nicola and Capraia.
The archipelago consists of 6 islands: San Domino, San Nicola, Capraia, Pianosa, Cretaccio and the rock of the old woman.
Each island has its features: San Domino and San Nicola are perfect to enjoy sea and sun, surrounded by fresh pine forests; Capraia and Cretaccio are almost uninhabited, but there are different and interesting animal species, as Diomedee, symbols of the Tremiti Islands; Pianosa, instead, is a nature reserve characterized by fascinating sea bottoms, different fish species and marine flora, crystal clear waters, a real paradise to diving or snorkeling; the rock of the old woman is very small and it’s linked to a legend according to which during stormy nights an old witch appears spinning.
Tremiti Islands are fascinating and mysterious and offer many opportunities: diving, snorkeling, trekking or going across the islands on bike, or the lovers of the nature can browse in the many sea caves.
We are waiting for you in our farm holidays in Vieste, from which these islands are easily accessible.
